I have been playing a game called World of Warcraft (or WoW for lazy bastards such as myself) off and on since about last April or May. Perhaps you may have heard of it, if not then go talk to any one of the imbeciles who bring their laptops to college just for the sake of playing (something of which I will admit I have not seen as much of this spring semester). Alright, I assume that came off as a bit harsh but let us be honest here, it is a seriously flawed game outright. Yes, I still play it today and will continue to do so for a while because it is still fun, but I call bollocks on being committed to playing it.
First though, just a little focus on the gaming community that actually plays the game. I will make the bold statement that if you play the game for more than forty hours a week on AVERAGE then you are a complete and total fool. I understand the occasional game session, but I refuse to think that playing a game as often as you should be holding a fulltime job is insane. Just like anything else, it simply is just a game. This would not be much of an issue, but all too often I have been seeing people give up a lot for the sake of WoW, but I really do not want to focus on all too important matters. However I have seen too often that a person will refuse to even try other games because they simply MUST log into WoW every waking moment that they have. Seriously, there are other games out there, and better too!
Pure and simple: PLAYING WORLD OF WARCRAFT IS NOT A PROFESSION!!!
Again, I find the game fun, however, but I play it as a casual gamer only. So what if I get screwed out of doing things with the guild I am in because of my level difference, I am not about to focus just on the game alone so I can keep up with them. I am not going to come on at schedule times so I can run instances with fellow guild members. This is why I play a rogue or hunter class, at least I can solo those with reasonable ease. Besides, if I am going to dedicate to anything hobby wise, I would much rather spend my time working on music or attempting art, the latter though has wasted away unfortunately.
You know, I believe I am going to stop there. At a later time I may babble on about the actual game system and in a not so rant like fashion I may discuss what would have been far more interesting in the game.
Sometimes I wish I did not stop playing FFXI, but then I realise that was rubbish too. If anyone can tell me, what IS a truly good MMORPG that is out currently that also allows a player to solo effectively?
